Nominate a Graduate Student to Join the GenEQ Advisory Group
October 30th, 2024
Help shape gender equity efforts at U of G. Nominations are being accepted for a graduate student member to join the GenEQ: Advancing the Status of Women at the University of Guelph Advisory Group.
The GenEQ Advisory Group use an inclusive definition of women that encompasses cisgender, transgender, intersex, and genderqueer women and encourage participation from individuals who are Two Spirit and/or gender nonconforming (e.g., non-binary, agender, bigender, and gender fluid). Diversity of perspectives is important in our work to better understand the experiences of all women in our University community. The Advisory Group especially encourages applications from those who self-identify as Black, Indigenous or People of Colour. Nominations are welcome for people of any gender, as well as those who are interested in learning how to be an ally and advocate for women on campus. Expertise in gender equity is not a requirement to serve on the advisory group.
The GenEq Advisory Group is comprised of faculty, staff and students who have an interest in advancing the status of women on campus. Since its inception, the Advisory Group has hosted International Women’s Day events, speaker series, developed a leadership framework and explored issues facing graduate students. The group is also actively working on celebrating women by sharing stories on women’s research, scholarship, service and contributions to the campus and community on our website.
What joining the advisory group involves
The GenEQ advisory group meets monthly for an hour and a half. Advisory group members serve a one-year term, renewable up to three years.
Members of the advisory group sit on one or more subcommittees and contribute to the subcommittees’ goals. The advisory group’s current subcommittees are Speaker Series, Leadership and Mentorship, Graduate Issues, and Communications.
