U of G Leadership Framework
The GenEQ Leadership and Mentorship Subcommittee in collaboration with Organizaion and Management Soutions (OMS) created the University of Guelph Leadership Framework. The Leadership Framework was designed to foster a shared understanding of high quality leadership and management practices at the University of Guelph. The objective is to provide a valuable resource that contributes to enriching the work environment through inclusive and supportive leadership. It was important to develop a Leadership Framework that people of all genders can identify with and to focus on leadership behaviours that help to promote Indigenization, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the University.
The framework defines eight core leadership competencies that support individual growth, team development, inclusive communication, and strategic organizational leadership. It serves as both a personal development tool and an institutional resource to support hiring, mentoring, training, and succession planning.
To ensure the framework was both evidence-informed and equity-driven, it was created through a multi-year, consultative process between the GenEQ Leadership and Mentorship Subcommittee and the OMS team who contributed expertise in stakeholder engagement, research and data analysis, and competency mapping. The core leadership competencies were identified from a consultative process with the University community, namely interviews with leaders from all levels of leadership, as well as focus groups of students, faculty, staff, and administration.
The framework empowers leaders at U of G to lead with integrity, empathy, and effectiveness, creating a more inclusive university culture for all.
