On September 2, 2020, GenEQ hosted a webinar devoted to gender equity in the time of COVID-19.
COVID-19 has laid bare and even intensified various forms of structural inequalities, highlighting historic racial disparities as well as health and economic inequalities worldwide. The pandemic has also had a disproportionate impact on women, for instance, in terms of gendered household labour and women’s over-representation in the care economy, resulting in differential impacts on many members of our University of Guelph community.
The webinar featured three U of G community members as they shared their experiences and perspectives on how the pandemic has threatened our progress towards gender equity:
- Malissa Bryan, PhD student, Department of Sociology
- Monique Deveaux, Canada Research Chair in Ethics and Global Social Change, Department of Philosophy
- Jenna Hennessy, Manager of Internal Communications
It was moderated by Karyn Freedman, Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy
